Briar Common Brewery + Eatery has an opening for its Head Brewer position.
The strongest candidates will have the following qualifications:
• Worked as a Head Brewer in a commercial brewery for at least 2+ years.
• Have a degree in brewing science, preferred but not required.
• Certified Cicerone, preferred but not required
• Previous experience in a leadership/management role.
• A robust understanding of world beer styles.
• High level mechanical knowledge and skills using a manual brew system.
• General biochemistry knowledge as it relates to bacterial and fungal infection in beer.
The Head Brewer will be responsible for the following but not limited to:
• Perform all brewing operations on our 7 bbl brewhouse
• Ingredient Procurement
• Brewing
• Cleaning
• Kegging/Transferring
• Manage and Maintain draft system
Everything else beer
• Staff in-services and training in both group and individual sessions.
• Collaborate with Marketing Manager for outreach, private events, festivals, and other marketing opportunities for brand growth and development.
• Participate as a member of the Brewpub’s Key Leadership Team, ensuring successful execution of the Briar Common Experience.
This will include working non-brewing shifts; interacting with guests, assisting in providing supervision of hourly team members, acting as Manager on Duty, etc.
• Attend regularly scheduled Leadership Meetings to discuss both performance and financial goals for the Brewpub.
• Working a flexible schedule that best fits the Brewpub’s needs.
If your perception of the Head Brewer role is to brew beer by day, and then sit at the house-bar and get drunk by night, this is NOT the opportunity for you.
