Head Cidermaker

Brick River Cider Company is seeking a Head Cidermaker to lead a small team (currently 5) production professionals in all aspects of hard cider production and packaging.

The successful candidate will have three or more years of progressively responsible experience in a brewery, ciderhouse or winery producing at least 3,000 barrels (93,000 gallons) of product annually. In addition to hands on experience an educational background equivalent to an associates degree or higher in brewing or winemaking or related scientific field such as food science, chemistry or biochemistry is highly preferred. Core Duties Include: · Leadership, management and scheduling of all production employees to foster a collaborative, efficient and friendly production team · Demonstrating and fostering a hard working, productive environment where attention to detail and employee safety are valued · Using analytic tools, lab equipment and your own sensory skills to ensure a high degree of excellence and consistency in all Brick River Cider Company products · Creation and execution of fermentation, cellaring and packaging schedules · Procurement of all cidermaking materials to meet sales and production requirements · Data tracking and analysis using batch record system, spreadsheets and other analytical tools. · Strong mechanical aptitude to assist in troubleshooting equipment issues and performing minor repairs and maintenance and coordinating larger repairs with the appropriate contractor(s) · Ability to operate, and train other employees to safely operate in accordance with SOP’s fermenters, brite tanks, tank mixers, CIP systems, pumps, high shear pumps, hot liquor tank, cross flow filtration system, 35 cpm ABE canning line and GRx depalletizer, pressurized gasses such as CO2, Nitrogen and Oxygen, tunnel pasteurizer, keg rigs, pilot still, glycol chillers, temperature/cellar control systems, conveyors, forklift, pallet jacks, man lift, rolling ladders, and a variety of small tools and equipment. · Ability to follow and implement all QA/QC and sanitation protocols in compliance with cGMP and FDA regulations and oversight of team to do the same · Collaborating with company ownership on creating new products that fulfill a meaningful role in our product/marketing strategy · Representing the company as a brand ambassador at occasional festivals and events · Ability to lift 55 pounds to waist level (stacking full sixth barrel kegs) and tilt and push up to 200 pounds (half barrel kegs). · Ability to work for extended periods of time in a physical setting requiring extending standing, lifting, twisting and exposure to wet, cold or hot environments. The position is full time Monday through Friday, typically 40 to 45 hours per week with occasional needs to stop or call in on the weekend to instruct a team member of perform a QC activity for up to a couple hours. In return, you will receive two weeks paid time off (PTO), 7 paid holidays and company sponsored health insurance plus a competitive salary based on experience up to $80,000 per year with annual bonus opportunity of $10,000 per year based on meeting quality objectives and production goals. Relocation assistance provided for those outside the Saint Louis area.
