The Director of Brewery Operations is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, and management of the brewery’s operations team, as well as the production process.
To perform this role, they must be capable of a variety of diverse tasks including but not limited to managing all production staff and processes, including: beer production scheduling ensuring adequate raw materials are available; overseeing, managing, facilitating and scheduling maintenance and repairs of brewery equipment; overseeing and managing production, cellar, and packaging teams and processes, while maintaining the top priority of ensuring a safe and happy work environment and team culture. This role will also oversee the growing DBco brand’s self-distribution and wholesale markets.
Job Duties:
The Director of Brewery Operations (DBO) has wide-reaching responsibilities that bring the role into contact with virtually every department and employee in the brewery. Responsibilities include:
• First and foremost: Create a positive and productive working environment. The Director of Brewery Operations will take an active role in leading and developing all staff/managers and making employment decisions.
• Drive team wellness with constructive two-way communication, including weekly or biweekly check-ins. Foster a spirit of collaboration and consensus. Check-ins with and effective management of team members should be priority along with providing staff with life skills to move their career forward.
• Supervise brewing production from start to finish. The Director of Brewery Operations will oversee every aspect of the production process, from the acquisition and processing of raw materials to the canning and dispatch of the finished product. When a problem occurs with a production process, they are the first point of contact.
• Accountable for safety of all employees and safe operations of all tasks performed on-site.
Ensure beer remains high-quality. The Director of Brewery Operations attend daily and weekly tastings to test the quality of the beer being produced. They will also work closely with QA/QC to evaluate chemical composition analysis of the beers being created and raw materials being used to ensure brand quality and consistency.
• Continually improve production processes and the quality of beer. The Director of Brewery Operations must embody a philosophy of continual improvement. They will constantly look for ways to increase the quality of the finished product and the efficiency of production processes. They will also help troubleshoot any problems that occur in the brewing process.
• Design process initiatives for production efficiency and help implement positive changes in the usage of existing staff and equipment.
• Positive representation of brand values and brand identity within the brew house, tap room and public events, which means discussion of brand principles and wearing branded apparel.
• Ensure and enforce occupational health and safety standards The individual must ensure the brewery is a safe workplace and they play a role in enforcing safety standards in production. The Director of Brewery Operations will also perform safety audits and ensure that anyone visiting the brewery does so safely.
• Ensure the brewery is extremely clean and complies with all food regulations.
Experience Requirements:
Experience leading a 15,000+ BBL a year Brewery and implementing quality assurance protocols
A demonstrated ability to drive improvement and innovation at a brewery
Demonstrated experience and success in managing individuals, teams and team dynamics
Proven ability to use best practice manufacturing techniques to improve the brewery
A genuine passion for helping people move forward in their career.
Nice to Haves:
A formal brewing qualification (IBD diploma or equivalent)
A management qualification or the equivalent experience
(Ideally) a Bachelor’s degree in food production, chemistry, biology, business or engineering.
Knowledge of OSHA and safety standards
Knowledge of government regulatory programs and HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point)

Compensation
Pay Rate is commensurate with experience
50%+ contribution by DBco to health insurance
