Production Manager - Canning & Packaging Operations

When you join the rapidly growing team at Downeast Cider, you will manage all Packaging operations, from canning through retail packaging, and oversee a team of 24 line operators and supervisors.

Location: East Boston, MA (in the Boston Harbor Shipyard) Schedule: Monday-Friday, Packaging team runs 24/4 or 16/5 depending on business needs so schedule flexibility is key You will manage and develop a large packaging team that fosters a safe work environment, the growth and development of its team members, and drives efficiency. Cross-departmental collaboration, a continuous improvement mindset and a focus on employee development will be key to ensure your team is set up for success as Downeast continues to rapidly scale. In the near term, you’ll navigate seasonally-based transitions between 24/4 and 16/5 operating schedules with a permanent switch to 24 hour operations expected in 2023 Longer term, there is a potential growth path into a director-level role or moving laterally to manage a different operations department. What you’ll do: • Oversee packaging line operations, including a Krones craftmate can line and an M+F keg line. • Manage the packaging team, including 3 supervisors and 21 line operators across multiple shifts • Foster an environment focused on continuous training and development, implementation of training systems, including coaching, cross-training and supervisor development • Transition team members and scheduling between 24/4 and 16/5 operations based on seasonal business needs, with a plan to move to 24 hour operations permanently by mid-2023 • Create and maintain a safe work environment that focuses on proactive remediation of problems and ensures the department meets OSHA standards • Drive efficiency to the floor with an emphasis on inter- and intra-departmental collaboration • Ensure the team is hitting daily targets and packaging standards as set by the packaging plan by providing clear performance expectations, giving feedback, coaching team members, and driving efficiency. • Collaborate with the production team to ensure tank readiness and communicate delays or advances in the schedule • Partner with the Maintenance team to ensure timely preventative and corrective maintenance of all packaging equipment to prevent disruptions to the packaging schedule • Partner with the People team to ensure the team is fully staffed and proactively solve for any employee concerns or issues Who you are: • 4+ years experience in a packaging/manufacturing department • 3+ years experience in a supervisory role • Experience managing hourly and salaried employees • Strong leader with a track record of continuous improvement and developing employees • Must be willing to have face time with all shifts at least 1x/week, available to be in the cider house full time, and available by phone during off-shifts Bonus points if you have… • Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering field • Experience with ERP systems • Alcoholic beverage experience • Canning experience Don’t check all the boxes?
