The quality assurance and quality control department at Drake’s is responsible for overseeing all aspects of quality company-wide. This involves following basic quality techniques, to analyze and report on material, processes, and products to ensure that they meet Drake’s quality standards. QA/QC Technician III is the career position. QA/QC Technicians at this level receive minimal supervision from management staff who review performance through inspection and reports for accuracy and compliance with established standards. QA/QC Technician III(s) also help with the training of new lab personnel. Job Responsibilities/Main Functions/Main Tasks to all levels: - Verify CIPs by performing microbiological testing on wort, beer, water, and equipment. - Analyzing beer and wort, including but not limited to: pH, color, turbidity, VDK, AE, and IBU. - Help perform packaging lab tests, as needed. - Help with sensory analysis program as needed. - Collect samples as necessary for laboratory testing. - Help manage yeast; including counting, viability testing, and pitch assignment as needed. - Performing testing on ingredients including malt, hops, and water, as needed. - Maintaining cleanliness and organization of all lab areas. - Performing all tasks according to SOP. - Adhering to all safety regulations at all times. - Provide on-the-job training for employees. - interpret oral and written instructions. - Knowledge on how to use, maintain, and repair all lab instruments. - Performing all necessary recordkeeping and summarizing/presenting findings as needed Core Competencies: - Time Management: Demonstrates ability in completing projects in given time. - Information Management: Identifies a need for and knows where or how to gather information; organizes and maintains information or information management systems. - Technical Competence: Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive on-the-job experience to perform one’s job. - Flexibility: Shows willingness and ability to adapt to any situation. - Communication: Demonstrates ability to work with coworkers and managers. - Problem-solving: Demonstrates your ability to evaluate situations and find solutions. Minimum required knowledge, skills, and abilities: The requirements listed below are cumulative. - A B.S. or Diploma in chemistry, microbiology, food science, or equivalent. - 1 year of professional experience in a quality laboratory. Industry-related experience is preferred. - Proficient in microbiology and chemistry techniques. - Understanding of the brewing process. - Strong focus on quality, safety, and efficiency. - Good organizational, and analytical skills, and has demonstrated experience in training lab staff. - 21 years of age or more - Good communication skills in English, both verbal and written, including technical writing. - Skilled with computers (word processing, spreadsheets, email, etc.) - Ability to work both alone and as a team. - Ability to follow complex instructions to a high level of detail and precision. Substitutions - Course work with lab time, can be substituted for experience. - Successful completion of classes and workshops can be substituted for experience or lab time, depending on the course. - Relevant personal experience can be substituted for experience or lab time, experience-dependent.
