The Brewer responsibilities include:
•Ensuring a safe working environment.
• Understanding and following all sanitation measures in adherence to quality assurance standards and GMP pertaining to but not limited to tank cleaning, equipment cleaning, ingredient storage, and personal hygiene.
• Competently and efficiently operate the equipment including but not limited to the canning line, bottling line, keg line, brewhouse, centrifuge, pasteurizer.
• Competently and efficiently perform tasks including but not limited to transferring liquid with low oxygen pickup, performing CIP, dry-hopping.
• Follow operating procedures consistent with the requirements and recipes of Hamburg Brewing to achieve desired quality and production targets.
• Performing standardized analytical testing which includes but is not limited to pH, gravity, dissolved carbon dioxide, dissolved oxygen, ABV, flavor, and shelf-life. This includes organizing and tracking analytical data.
• Maintaining detailed and accurate batch records and logs.
• Be forward thinking to organize workflow efficiently and stay ahead.
• Clean as you go mentality, keeping work area clean and presentable.
• Recognition of abnormalities in equipment and process.
• Collaborating with Operations Team to determine the root cause and possible solutions for abnormalities.
• Maintaining a strong working knowledge of the operational equipment in the brewhouse, pumps, valves, filters, and centrifuges.
• Maintaining equipment to minimize unplanned downtime delays.
• Continuing their education as needed to fill gaps in technical and managerial knowledge.
• Other duties as required including working with team members throughout production when necessary.
Knowledge & Skills Needed:
• Ability to work safely with all brewing and cleaning materials required in standard brewing and beverage process operations.
• Ability to keep clear and accurate records and note recipe discrepancies as they happen.
• Knowledge of the theory and practice of brewing / batching including recipe formulation and scale up.
• Chemical safety and effectiveness
• General knowledge of processing and fermentation science
• Problem solving
• Ability to plan and organize complex tasks as well as coordinate and communicate effectively with others
• Ability to work in a team setting, cooperate, collaborate, communicate with co- workers and across departments.
• Ability to drive a forklift and handle heavy objects safely.
Position Requirements:
• Candidate will have at least 2 years’ experience working in a production environment as a brewer, batcher, or packaging operator responsible for production equipment and following SOPs.
• High School Diploma or GED Required.
• Coursework and/or on-the-job training that provides the technical skills necessary to understand all aspects of brewing or fermentation science is preferred but not required.
• Strong understanding of chemical safety and chemical effectiveness
• Proficient in the use of various quality assurance tools to measure ABV, specific gravity, etc. and that they have a well-developed palate that can make distinctions among flavors, ingredients, fermentation characteristics, and aging/storage methods.
Physical Requirements:
• Candidate must be able to perform physical activities which include but are not limited to lifting, bending over, kneeling, twisting, climbing on ladders, stooping, crouching, and routinely lifting to 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
• Candidates may be required to stand for up to 4 hours at a time. This person is expected to use/operate latches, hand tools, clamps, hoses, pumps, valves, etc., that will require dexterity, manipulation, and hand-eye coordination.
• This person must be able to work within a 1st shift (08:00 – 16:30)
• They will be expected to occasionally handle hazardous chemicals in a safe manner.
